Luang Prabang is fast becoming a café paradise.
Amid the boom, there’s a spot that stylish-café lovers shouldn’t miss—Formula B.
Set in a French colonial-era building, the interior blends the best of the original architecture with a refined, modern sensibility.
It’s a bit of a hideaway—the order counter is upstairs, reached via the staircase at the back of the ground floor—but thanks to its super-cute interior, it’s extremely popular.
Right on Sisavangvong Road (the main street), it’s easy to drop by—be sure to visit at least once during your stay in Luang Prabang!

A Hideaway Up the Inner Staircase
When Formula B opened in 2019, it felt truly tucked away—you’d climb the internal staircase from the ground-floor gallery to reach the café.
Its good looks and prime location quickly made it a hit, and part of the first floor now serves as a seating area as well.
That said, the main action is still on the second floor, and ordering upstairs remains the norm—so the hideaway vibe is very much intact.
Whitewashed-Brick Chic

One big reason for Formula B’s popularity is its gorgeous interior.
Housed in a French colonial-era structure, the whitewashed brick walls give it a clean, cohesive, and sophisticated colonial look—arguably one of the most stylish café interiors in Luang Prabang.

I especially love the window-side counter seats, where you can people-watch along the main street—it’s wonderfully atmospheric.
Instagrammable Seats on the Ground Floor

Part of the ground floor now offers seating, and the window seats are unmistakably “Instagrammable.”
They’re very popular—you’ll often see groups taking photos—so snagging one feels lucky.
A Wide Lineup of Dessert-Style Drinks—Very Starbucks-Like

Another draw is the abundance of sweet, dessert-style drinks—many piled high with whipped cream that you’ll want to photograph.
With frequent limited-time items, it’s clear that Formula B puts real effort into its sweets-oriented menu.
It’s fair to call it “Luang Prabang’s Starbucks.”
Of course, coffee-forward options are plentiful too, so it works for both coffee lovers and non-coffee drinkers.
Cakes Are a Big Hit, Too

Cakes are another focus here, with seasonal, limited editions rolling out regularly.
I recommend taking a slice to go and enjoying it slowly back at your hotel.

They’re popular—you’ll often see the ground-floor display chiller well stocked—and reviews frequently praise the cakes.
Go in the Morning—Daytime Gets Busy

Given its main-street location, photo-worthy drinks, and stylish interior, Formula B naturally draws crowds, especially after midday.
If you want to take photos or relax, mornings are your best bet.
Note that opening hours differ on weekdays and weekends, so plan accordingly!
